Job Overview
Boxley Ready Mix is opening a brand-new maintenance shop in Roanoke, VA, and we're looking for a skilled, hands-on Maintenance Technician to help keep our ready mix operation running at its best. In this role, you'll primarily service and repair ready mix concrete trucks while also supporting the maintenance and repair of batch plant equipment. This is a unique ground-floor opportunity to play a key role in establishing and operating a new shop, helping build the maintenance program from the ground up.
Fleet / Truck Maintenance Duties
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on mixer trucks and support vehicles, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid inspections, tire service, and brake maintenance.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues on ready mix trucks, including drum drive systems, chutes, water systems, PTOs, rollers, and other mixer components.
- Perform DOT-required inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records and repair documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and fleet reliability.
- Provide on-site troubleshooting and repair support for drivers to minimize equipment downtime and keep operations running efficiently.
- Respond to breakdowns as needed
Plant Maintenance Duties
- Perform routine inspections, lubrication, and preventive maintenance on batch plant equipment, including conveyors, silos, weigh hoppers, cement screw conveyors, water systems, discharge gates, and dust collection systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical issues on batch plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
- Perform welding, cutting, and basic metal fabrication to repair, modify, and install equipment and components.
- Assist with seasonal startup, shutdown, and winterization of batch plant equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation throughout the year.
Shop & Safety Duties
- Help organize and maintain the maintenance shop, tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory to support safe, efficient operations.
- Order maintenance parts and supplies while maintaining accurate inventory records to ensure critical items are available when needed.
- Follow all company, OSHA, and environmental safety standards while performing maintenance activities to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
Minimum Requirements
- 2+ years of diesel, mechanical, or industrial maintenance experience required; experience with ready mix, aggregates, construction equipment, or heavy-duty trucks is a plus.
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and basic electrical systems.
- Welding, cutting, and basic fabrication skills preferred.
- Valid CDL Class A license required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work safely indoors and outdoors in varying weather and job site conditions.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.

Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
