"How would you describe your team?"
"We grew, but without losing what made us good in the first place."
That was the Managing Director's answer.
Honestly, it probably tells you more about this firm than I could.
They're now looking for a Tax Manager to join their boutique tax practice, working with ultra high net worth individuals, family offices, private equity and venture capital professionals. The work is broad, from complex 1040s through to partnerships, trusts, corporations and international tax, often looking after an entire family structure rather than just one return.
What stood out most when I met the Managing Director wasn't the client base.
It was how open minded they are about people.
Most firms have a long list of requirements.
This one doesn't.
They're looking for someone who enjoys tax, likes solving problems and still wants to stay close to the work. This isn't a role where you'll spend all day reviewing returns from a distance. They want someone who enjoys mentoring the team, getting involved in technical tax work and building relationships with clients.
The team is predominantly remote, built around trust rather than who's in the office, and they're investing heavily in where tax is heading, from AI tools through to expanding their advisory offering. You don't need a CPA to progress here either. What matters is your ability, not the letters after your name.
It's also a genuinely interesting time to join. As the firm continues to grow, they're looking to expand their advisory services, and there are clear opportunities for someone who wants to take on more responsibility over time.
Busy season is busy, around 60 hours during the peak periods, but outside of that people have a life. The environment suits people who are naturally curious, resourceful and comfortable taking ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do.
If you're looking for interesting clients, genuine variety and a firm where you'll have the freedom to make an impact, I'd love to tell you more.
If you're just browsing the job boards and haven't dusted off your resume yet, that's not a problem. Give me a call first. You'll find my number on LinkedIn. Search Lucy Weibel at Distinct North America. Or if it's easier, send me a connection request or message and we'll pick it up from there.
If you've read this advert and aren't sure whether you have every bit of experience they're looking for, I'd still encourage you to apply. We work with CPA firms across the US that are committed to building diverse, inclusive and equitable workplaces, and if this isn't quite the right fit, there's every chance I'll know one that is.
