Job Position: 1st Shift Destructive Lab Associate
Location: Fountain Inn, SC 29344
Pay Rate: $20.00/hr
Shift: Monday-Friday (Saturday as needed) 7am-3:30pm
Description: OpSource has partnered with a 3rd party Quality Inspection company located in Fountain Inn, SC that specializes in manufacturing engineered automotive structural metal components and assemblies.
A destructive lab associate performs physical stress, breaking, and dissection tests on materials, components, or products to evaluate durability, strength, and failure points. They prepare test specimens, operate heavy testing or microscopic equipment, document structural results, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
This a hot/dusty and dirty environment. Must be able able to lift 35 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
Core Responsibilities:
Cut, mount, polish, or etch material samples (metals, polymers, or electronics) for physical evaluation
Execute destructive physical analysis (DPA), tensile strength, hardness, burst, or tear tests under strict military, industrial, or internal standards.
Dissect failed parts or components to locate initiation sites of defects using microscopes and imaging tools
Record measurements, draft testing reports, and log non-conformances for engineering or quality control teams.
Calibrate testing machinery, manage inventory of sample supplies, and maintain a safe workspace
Use a hammer drill, a hydraulic hammer, the jaws of life and other tools used to destruct and tear parts apart, examining the welds.
Qualifications: (Training, Education, Past Experience)
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to follow instructions and follow through with assigned tasks
Ability to communicate procedures and instruct others in a clear and precise manner
Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
Familiarity with mechanical testing equipment, digital microscopy, and standard operating procedures (such as MIL-STD or ASTM guidelines)
High attention to detail, strong hand-eye coordination for delicate sample dissection, and clear technical communication
