A List Admissions & Tutoring is a boutique educational consulting and tutoring company serving students from preschool through graduate school throughout Los Angeles and Southern California. We provide individualized academic tutoring, standardized test preparation, executive functioning coaching, college admissions consulting, and academic support tailored to each student's unique strengths and learning needs.

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Reading Specialist to provide one-on-one, in-person academic support for a 6th-grade student in the Beverly Hills area.
The family has expressed a preference for a male tutor who can serve as both an exceptional educator and a positive mentor. We are looking for someone who can build a genuine connection with the student while making learning engaging, encouraging, and enjoyable.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience teaching reading and literacy skills and is passionate about helping students improve reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and overall confidence. Beyond academics, this tutor should be someone who can motivate, inspire, and help the student develop strong study habits and a positive attitude toward learning.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, in-person reading instruction for a 6th-grade student
- Strengthen reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills
- Identify learning gaps and create personalized lessons to address them
- Foster confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of reading
- Serve as a positive mentor while building a supportive and encouraging relationship
- Reinforce organization, study habits, and executive functioning strategies when appropriate
- Communicate regularly with the A List educational team regarding student progress
- Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and consistency
Qualifications
- Extensive experience tutoring or teaching reading, literacy, or language arts
- Strong understanding of reading development and effective reading intervention strategies
- Experience working with middle school students
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, engaging, dependable, and enthusiastic
- Ability to build trust and rapport with students and families
- Reliable transportation for regular in-person sessions in the Beverly Hills area
A bachelor's degree is welcome but is not required. We value demonstrated experience and a proven ability to help students succeed above formal credentials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Reading specialist or literacy intervention experience
- Experience supporting students with learning differences
- Executive functioning or academic coaching experience
- Background in structured literacy, phonics-based instruction, or evidence-based reading interventions
- Experience serving as a mentor or youth coach
