As a Thermetrics Field Instrumentation and Calibration Technician, you will be based out of your home office, and travel to customer sites around the world to diagnose and repair hardware and software problems, perform field repairs and system calibrations. You will work with, and be backed by, a team of talented engineers and technicians who value communication, knowledge-sharing, and mutual support to maintain the world’s most sophisticated human thermal simulation instruments.
General Job Responsibilities Include
· Deliver customer satisfaction through attentive, high-quality calibration, service, and technical support activity.
· Plan domestic and international travel itineraries and build strong, professional relationships with customer contacts for on-site service.
· Travel to customer sites, up to 75% of the time (6 weeks out of 8), typically solo.
· Perform instrument calibrations at client locations per IEC/ISO 17025 accreditation requirements.
· Perform minor maintenance, repairs and consumable part replacement on various thermal laboratory devices in the field.
· Maintain device calibration logs, create service reports, and carefully track and document expenses across various business and IT systems (Syteline, MiSys, MS Office Suite, etc.).
· Liaison with Sales staff to identify and communicate potential revenue opportunities at client sites.
· Be on-site in Seattle 1 week out of every 8 for training and team collaboration.
· Participate in weekly status/priority calls with support team.
· On-boarding and Hands-on Training will be held on-site at our Seattle, WA Headquarters immediately upon hire.
Required Qualifications
- Two- or Four-year degrees in related technical field, equivalent certifications or experience.
- · 4+ years of hands-on calibrations, complex system and subsystem diagnostics, and Level 2 repair/maintenance activities.
- · 2+ years of prior success in traveling field service (customer facing) role.
- · Experience with temperature sensing and thermal control systems.
- · Proven skills to perform mechanical and electrical repairs as necessary, including soldering, crimping, precision assembly
- · Ability to read and interpret electrical and assembly schematics, one-line diagrams.
- · Ability to work independently with limited precedent (Yes, it broke like that).
- · Must be able to intermittently and safely lift up to 65 lbs.
- · Effective written and verbal skills to connect with clients, sales agents, and engineers.
- · Proactive and highly organized to keep up with travel demands.
- · Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Sharepoint, Teams, Outlook)
- · Excellent small team player, professional demeanor; know when to ask for help.
- · Schedule flexibility for sudden service trips: Ready to go to Ohio next week? How about Germany?
- · Valid passport and vaccination record (as it relates to international travel requirements).
- · Candidates must be authorized to work in the US. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Extra Credit
- Experience with IEC/ISO 17025 accreditation.
- Understanding of heat transfer and thermodynamics.
- Familiarity with textile test standards: ASTM, ISO, NFPA, etc.
- Experience training customers in operation and maintenance of complex scientific instruments.
- Working knowledge of I2C architecture, serial communication protocols, or PLC architecture.
- Fluent in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese.
