SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Site Supervisor and Program Director, the Child Development Associate Instructor II work in a classroom setting by providing direct instruction to individual and small and large groups of students. Provides clerical and other classroom support services to afterschool programs. Implements effective classroom management techniques and supervises student behaviors in the classroom and on the playground. Arranges supplies, materials and equipment for student use. Comply with State competency and Basic Skills Testing to qualify for the position.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Works under minimal supervision of the Site Supervisor. Required to work independently by supervising the classroom and students. Have a broad range of general skills and knowledge in order to provide basic instruction, clerical services, and use classroom management techniques in small and large groups. Work is performed in a classroom or small group environment where there is moderate exposure to communicable disease and hygiene needs of young children.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Child Development Associate Instructor II is responsible for the gathering of Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) data, and coordinating parent teacher conferences twice annually. Child Development Associate Instructor II requires a minimum of 12 accredited semester units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) with at least 6 units in School-Age Emphasis.
ESSENTIAL TYPES OF DUTIES (Examples)
- In the absence of the Child Development Site Supervisor the Child Development Associate Instructor II will assume the duties of the Site Supervisor.
- Presents learning materials and instructional lessons to students. Conducts lessons and other classroom activities. Prepares, assists, and maintains various program projects. Provides homework support and instruction to students in reading, writing, spelling, math or other subjects in large or small groups.
- Reports progress regarding students’ performance and conduct to Site Supervisor. Evaluates student progress in a wide variety of skills and reports progress using the DRDP online tool.
- Maintains order among students in the classroom and on the school grounds. Supervises assigned students in the classroom, playground, cafeteria or at various school-wide activities to include field trips and assemblies.
- Monitors classroom activities and actively supervises students when the Child Development Site Supervisor is absent from the room. Accompanies students going from one location to another and upholds behavioral procedures.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties such as preparing weekly lesson plans, tracking attendance, and following attendance procedures and regulations.
- Prepares instructional materials as appropriate.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, taking roll, maintaining records (data entry), filing and processing classroom materials and supplies, and completes DRDP data records.
- Assists students by demonstrating appropriate conduct, providing emotional support, and general guidance.
- Assures the health and safety of students by following prescribed health and safety rules of the District.
- Assists the Child Development Site Supervisor in assessing programs and materials. Collects and organizes learning materials, supplies, equipment and other materials.
- Prepares bulletin board and decorates the classroom. Maintains a neat and orderly learning environment. Prepares and operates audiovisual equipment, computers, copying machines and other related equipment as needed.
- May assist students with student personal hygiene matters, which could involve assisting with lavatory and other personal care activities.
Experience and Training:
Requires 12 accredited semester units in early childhood education (ECE) with at least 6 units in School-Age Emphasis. Specific experience in working with children in a classroom or other organized setting desired.
Pay: $23.61 - $27.37 per hour
