About the Company
We are a fast-growing environmental testing company serving restoration contractors, property owners, and other clients across multiple territories.
Our growth has been driven by the reputation for excellence we have earned through responsiveness, clear communication, accurate work, fast turnaround times, and consistently putting our clients first. Protecting and strengthening that reputation will be a core responsibility of this role.
We are building the operational foundation to scale the company several times over in the coming years. This role will play a central part in developing the people, systems, and accountability required to achieve that growth without sacrificing quality or reputation.
We are building a team of high-performing people who take pride in excellent work, personal accountability, and continuous improvement. This role is for someone who wants to help raise the standard and is willing to put in the work required to achieve ambitious goals.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, highly organized, hands-on Director of Operations to lead our day-to-day operational functions.
This person will manage department supervisors and directly oversee our field technicians. The role includes responsibility for field operations, coordinating and scheduling, accounts receivable and collections, reports and invoicing, vendor performance, employee training, and operational cost control.
This is not a passive oversight or maintenance position.
You will be expected to understand how the business works at a detailed level, identify problems before they become larger issues, develop employees and supervisors, and successfully implement operational improvements.
The right person will take ownership of results and significantly reduce the need for the owner to step into routine operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Interview, hire, and ensure the proper training of new employees
- Manage department supervisors and directly oversee field technicians
- Meet regularly with supervisors to review performance, staffing, KPIs, and priorities
- Provide operational oversight across all departments during company operating hours
- Remain reasonably available for escalations between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., seven days a week
- Step in during urgent coverage, operational, or client-service situations when necessary
- Proactively identify potential issues and resolve them before they affect clients, employees, cash flow, or company reputation
- Organize projects, responsibilities, deadlines, and follow-up across departments
- Hold supervisors and employees accountable for performance and commitments
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, service, and cost control
- Use AI and automation tools as a first step when appropriate to analyze problems, improve processes, organize information, and develop practical solutions
- Independently review and verify important AI-generated work before implementation
- Work closely with our dedicated implementation employee to build and launch approved improvements
- Use Google Sheets, dashboards, CRMs, and other technology to monitor and improve performance
- Bring recommended solutions rather than simply reporting problems
- Take approved ideas from concept through successful implementation
Learning the Business
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong understanding of:
- The processes and responsibilities within each operational department
- Environmental testing workflows
- Restoration-industry operations and terminology
- Insurance collections and adjuster follow-up
- Field technician, vendor, laboratory, reporting, and invoicing workflows
- Licensing and certification requirements across active territories
- Company pricing, service standards, and turnaround expectations
- The software and systems used to manage the business
The Director of Operations should understand each department well enough to evaluate performance, train employees, resolve problems, and step in when necessary.
We value proven operational leadership over narrow industry experience. However, the person selected must be capable of learning a specialized business quickly and taking ownership of that learning.
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ years of operations or multi-department management experience
- Experience in a service-based, field-service, home-service, or execution-driven company
- Proven experience managing supervisors and multiple departments
- Strong interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training experience
- Exceptional organizational and follow-through skills
- Strong computer and technology skills
- Advanced comfort with Google Sheets and operational reporting
- Basic working knowledge of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini
- Ability to use AI tools responsibly to analyze problems, improve processes, organize information, and develop practical solutions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities without losing track of details
- Strong analytical thinking and sound independent judgment
- Ability to conduct direct and difficult conversations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to operate independently without frequent reminders or follow-up
- Comfortable being measured by results, execution, and clearly defined KPIs
- Comfortable working in a fully remote environment
- Willingness to step outside a narrow job description when the situation reasonably requires it
