Position Summary
We are seeking an Assembly Optimization Intern to support the improvement of assembly processes, workstation efficiency, and production performance. This internship offers hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, working alongside engineering and operations teams to analyze workflows, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and interested in manufacturing, process improvement, industrial engineering, or operations management.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe and document current assembly processes and workflows.
- Conduct time studies and collect production data to identify inefficiencies.
- Assist in analyzing assembly line performance, cycle times, and bottlenecks.
- Support the development and implementation of process improvements to increase productivity and quality.
- Create and update work instructions, process documentation, and visual aids.
- Assist with workstation layout improvements and ergonomic assessments.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with operators, supervisors, and engineers to identify opportunities for optimization.
- Track key performance metrics and prepare reports on improvement projects.
- Support efforts to reduce defects, rework, downtime, and material waste.
Qualifications
Required
- Currently pursuing a degree or have relevant experience in:
- Industrial Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Operations Management
- Supply Chain Management
- Related technical field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or Six Sigma principles.
- Experience with process mapping, workflow analysis, or time studies.
- Knowledge of manufacturing or assembly operations.
- Experience with data visualization or reporting tools.
