New Freedom’s HR Generalist will play a pivotal role in supporting critical human resources functions for 250+ team members. The HR Generalist will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to recruitment, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and compliance. In addition to key HR administrative roles, the HR Generalist will work closely and collaboratively with all HR staff, actively participating in and taking a lead on special projects related to the achievement of annual department goals and objectives. The HR Generalist will be an important contributor and leader within the HR team and company, working to ensure New Freedom is an employer of choice where we achieve our mission of inspiring successful community re-entry for all members and drive their success through compassionate, introspective, peer-driven support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees and collaborates with the designated HR staff to develop and ensure effective recruitment strategies:
- Ensuring the designated HR staff screen applicants and verify new hire eligibility in an effective and timely manner
- Provide coaching and development of the HR staff and hiring manager(s) to ensure sourcing and/or selection of the most qualified candidates
- Ensuring job fairs and other hiring processes are organized, consistent, effective, and of the utmost quality
- Oversees and monitors the designated HR staff’s effective completion of new hire onboarding tasks, ensuring tasks are completed in an organized, effective, and timely manner, compliant with legal and contractual requirements
- Reviews and approves completed pre-employment background reports and conducts new hire audits, ensuring all required steps have been completed and new hires have been appropriately cleared for start
- Oversees and monitors the ongoing development of and adherence with New Hire Celebration (orientation) of all new staff, ensuring:
- Facilitation schedules and coverage are maintained by the designated HR staff
- The utmost quality of content and materials being reviewed
- Effective coordination, tracking, and reporting
- Ongoing improvement initiatives
- Partners with the designated HR staff and HR Director to ensure compliance with employee training requirements, continuing education, professional licensure, employee credentials, and contractual and/or funding requirements
- Oversees routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including but not limited to:
- Compensation, benefits, and FMLA/ADA/General Leave of Absence (GLOA)
- Employee productivity, recognition, communication, and morale
- Employee training and development collaboration with SMEs, HR Director, and other designated HR staff
- Payroll and timekeeping
- Manages disciplinary matters, complaints, and investigations in a prompt, thorough, and well-documented manner
- Manages select employee relations matters in partnership with department leaders and appropriately escalates more complex employee relations matters to the HR Director, as needed
- Oversees and monitors the timely and effective processing of and response to unemployment claims, ensuring attendance at unemployment hearings, and effective management of appeals
- Partners with staff and leaders to provide personnel policy and procedure guidance to employees and management, ensuring effective and timely assistance
- Oversees and monitors the designated HR staff’s completion of employment verifications and inquiries, ensuring timely response that is aligned with the company’s policies and procedures
- Partners with the HR Director for initiatives such as annual performance reviews; employee engagement surveys; All-Staff Town Hall meetings; monthly newsletters and announcements; maintenance of the department and/or company SharePoint page, HR ticketing system, and HRIS; and other required duties and activities
- Assists with the review, development, communication, and enforcement of department and company policies and procedures in a fair, consistent, and equitable manner
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, adhering to recommended best practices
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies and/or developments in human resources, talent management, and employment law, also ensuring the information is shared with other members of the HR team, staff, and leaders
- Assists with the management and ongoing development of the HR Information System (HRIS), helping to monitor and ensure data integrity and compliance, while also utilizing the system(s) to their full potential
- Completes required reports and deliverables in a timely, effective, and thorough manner
- Oversees and monitors the designated HR staff with respect to processing employee changes, such as position changes/transfers, promotions, terminations, and other transactions
- Acts as the immediate point of contact for problem-solving and support needs of the HR team, prior to challenges and/or questions being escalated to the HR Director and/or VP of Human Resources
- Supervises and/or supports other members of the HR team, either directly or indirectly, effectively coaching and managing performance, goal attainment, and coverage of responsibilities
