The purpose of this position is to provide academic advising, disability services, and support resources to students with disabilities, special populations, and technical education students in order to promote student access, retention, and success. This role reviews disability documentation and determine eligibility for accommodations in compliance with ADA and Section 504 guidelines, coordinate support services including assistive technology, CART services, and sign language interpreters, and maintain confidential student records and reporting requirements. This position can also provide counseling, outreach, recruitment, and career guidance support while collaborating with campus departments, community organizations, and grant programs to meet student needs.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Counsel students, plan and implement outreach activities, and provide other related services to address the needs of students who are disabled, enrolled in a technical area of study, and/or are classified as special populations.
- Provide recruitment, enrollment, and academic counseling to students who qualify as members of a special population.
- Form linkages within the college and the community to give continued assistance to students and will provide outreach for the grant program
- Work directly with the Perkins Grant to coordinate supplemental funding for CART writers and sign language interpreters for technical education students.
- Work with a variety of disability-related software programs and maintain the Clockwork database used by the OSD office.
- Help prepare the budget for our department.
- Review disability documentation and determine eligibility for accommodations in compliance with ADA and Section 504 guidelines.
- Maintain confidential student records and generate reports related to OSD services and grant activities.
