Job Overview
Custom Climate is a Sarasota based HVAC company focusing on residential service which includes about 10% of new construction customers.
About the Role
We are looking for an organized, technical, and highly communicative Equipment and Duct Installation Manager to oversee our residential retrofit installations and new construction projects (roughly 10% of our volume). A major focus for this role will be building our operational foundation from the ground up by recruiting, hiring, and onboarding our very first in-house 2-person installation crew.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between our field operations, office, supply houses, and customers. You will be responsible for end-to-end installation success—ensuring the right equipment and materials are ordered at the best pricing, schedules are locked down, permits are seamlessly pulled and closed, and our installation team executes flawless, code-compliant jobs. Outstanding soft skills are critical, as you will interact directly with homeowners to ensure complete customer satisfaction before, during, and after the job.
Key Responsibilities
- In-House Crew Recruitment & Leadership: Lead the search to hire, onboard, and train our first internal 2-person installation crew. Provide direct supervision, performance management, and daily mentorship in the field.
- Job Planning & Logistics: Review upcoming residential replacements and new construction jobs to ensure accurate equipment sizing, correct ductwork transitions, and complete material staging before crews dispatch.
- Procurement & Vendor Negotiation: Order equipment, line sets, ducting, and installation supplies. Leverage vendor relationships to negotiate competitive pricing on materials and manage inventory efficiency.
- Crew Coordination & Quality Control: Schedule and dispatch installation crews, monitor job progress, perform quality control site visits, and hold crews accountable for clean, high-quality workmanship.
- Permitting Management: Direct the timely pulling, tracking, and final inspection sign-offs for all residential and commercial building permits with local municipalities.
- New Construction Oversight (10%): Coordinate directly with builders, site supervisors, and trade partners to manage rough-ins, finish trim-outs, and equipment commissioning on new construction projects.
- Homeowner & Client Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for homeowners regarding install logistics, timeline updates, walk-throughs, and resolving any job-site concerns with empathy and professionalism.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Industry & Leadership Experience: 5+ years of hands-on HVAC experience (installation background required) with 2+ years in a supervisory or management role. Proven ability to recruit, evaluate, and manage field installers.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of residential system design, airflow/duct sizing, line-voltage/low-voltage wiring, heat pump configurations, and Florida building code requirements.
- Soft Skills & Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven track record of handling customer interactions with tact, active listening, and professionalism.
- Organizational Abilities: Strong command of job scheduling, vendor management, permit processes, and digital field management tools.
- New Construction Readiness: Ability to read blueprints, interface with general contractors, and manage site readiness for rough-in and trim stages.
- Licensing & Driving: Valid driver’s license with a clean, insurable driving record.
