Position Summary
The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in leading the daily operations of the coffeehouse while creating an exceptional customer experience. This role helps build and develop a positive, high-performing team, ensures operational excellence, and maintains Scooter's Coffee standards in quality, cleanliness, speed, and hospitality. The Assistant Store Manager serves as a role model by leading with a positive attitude, coaching team members, and stepping into leadership whenever the Store Manager is unavailable.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead by example while living Scooter's Coffee core values
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new team members
- Coach and develop baristas through ongoing feedback and encouragement
- Foster a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment
- Assist with employee performance conversations and accountability
- Help motivate the team to achieve sales and operational goals
- Serve as Manager-on-Duty in the Store Manager's absence
Customer Experience
- Deliver outstanding customer service during every shift
- Build relationships with regular guests and create a welcoming atmosphere
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly
- Ensure drinks and food meet Scooter's Coffee quality standards
- Promote a fast, friendly, and accurate service experience
Operations
- Assist with opening and closing procedures
- Ensure daily operational checklists are completed
- Monitor product quality, cleanliness, and food safety standards
- Help manage inventory, ordering, stocking, and product rotation
- Maintain equipment and communicate maintenance needs
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and company policies
Financial & Business Performance
- Support labor management and scheduling
- Assist with inventory counts and cost control
- Help monitor sales goals and key performance metrics
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
- Support promotional campaigns and community events
Administrative Duties
- Complete required reports and documentation
- Maintain accurate employee records and training documentation
- Communicate effectively with the Store Manager and leadership team
- Assist with scheduling and shift coverage as needed
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience in retail, food service, or hospitality
- Strong customer service skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead, coach, and motivate a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills
Preferred
- Previous coffee shop or quick-service restaurant experience
- Experience with scheduling, inventory, or employee training
- Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Lift up to 40 pounds
- Bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive movements
- Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require
