Safety Director – Mission Critical Construction

An industry-leading owner/developer is seeking a Safety Director to oversee all health and safety operations across a major power generation and critical infrastructure construction project supporting a new hyperscale data center campus. Reporting directly to the Vice President of HSE, you will lead the site's entire safety function, managing a team of Safety Managers while driving safety performance across hundreds of contractors working in a fast-paced construction environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead all site health, safety and environmental activities across a large-scale power and critical infrastructure construction project.
- Manage and mentor a team of Shift Safety Managers responsible for day-to-day field safety.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve site-specific safety management systems, procedures and standards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies and client requirements across multiple contractors and trades.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action programs.
- Oversee Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, emergency response planning and site audits.
- Drive a proactive safety culture through coaching, leadership and continuous engagement with field personnel.
- Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks and training programs for employees and subcontractors.
- Partner closely with construction, commissioning and project leadership teams to ensure safety remains at the forefront throughout all project phases.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure consistent application of safety expectations across the project.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of experience leading construction safety, industrial safety or EHS programs on large, complex construction projects.
- Experience within power generation, electrical infrastructure, utilities, energy, mission-critical, industrial or similar heavy construction environments.
- Previous experience managing safety teams on projects involving large contractor workforces.
- Strong knowledge of:
- OSHA 1926 Construction Standards
- OSHA 1910 General Industry
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Hazard identification and risk assessment
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Experience developing and implementing site-specific safety plans, emergency response procedures and contractor safety programs.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST).
- OSHA 30 Construction Certification (OSHA 500 desirable).
