American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology position at a Level II Trauma facility in Bismarck, ND, requiring a ND or compact RN license and at least 2 years of experience.

Acute care Med/Surg Oncology unit in a Level II Trauma hospital setting
-
31-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients
-
Common diagnoses include stroke (non-thrombectomy), HTN, COPD, cellulitis, CHF, A-fib (non-RVR), chest pain, post-ICU MI, AMS/behavioral, oncology, and surgical overflow (no joints or craniotomies)

Oncology patients are managed by core nursing staff; no oncology provider is in-house on the current day shift

Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-5 on days, 1:5-6 on nights

RNs are required to titrate drips, including Lasix and Heparin
-
BiPAP (stable) and established trach patients with blow-by oxygen are present on the unit

Monitor techs handle telemetry strip interpretation; RNs are not required to read and interpret their own strips

Charting is done in Epic
-
12-hour shifts, days (0700-1930), with every other weekend required
-
Floating required to other Med/Surg units; may float to ER holds occasionally; no float to mom/baby; a tele RN will cover strip interpretation if floated to a tele unit

No on-call or standby requirement

Holiday coverage required as needed

Block scheduling may be considered if unit needs are met

Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted

Epic EMR experience (used on unit)

Experience with trach and BiPAP preferred but not required
-
Lasix drip titration experience preferred but not required
-
A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration

2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved

Unit orientation consists of 1-2 shifts on the floor

A charge nurse is present on each shift and serves as a resource for both shifts, typically without a patient assignment unless there is a staffing need
-
Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit at a 1:8 ratio

No specific scrub color requirement
