The State of New Hampshire, Judicial Branch, 10th Circuit Court has a full-time temporary position for Indigent Defense Verification Specialist. This role has an anticipated duration of six months; employment is not guaranteed beyond the temporary assignment period.
Summary : The Indigent Defense Verification Specialist supports the efficient administration of court processes by identifying barriers for Request for a Lawyer (RFL) forms being completed in a timely manner, processing requests for court-appointed counsel, verifying indigency eligibility, and producing data-driven reports. This role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to coordinate with internal court staff and external state partners.
This position works within the New Hampshire Court System and is subject to the sufficient and continued funding of the Judicial Branch by the New Hampshire Legislature.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: High School degree and two years of experience in court operations, legal assistance, government services or a related field.
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities as determined by NHJB.
Other Job Requirements:
Successful completion of a background check, including a criminal records check and motor vehicle records check.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Review, organize, and process RFL forms submitted by indigent defendants in Circuit and Superior Courts and RFL forms received in non-criminal matters, including Child Protection, Guardianship, Delinquency, and other case types.
Ensure all submissions are complete, accurate, and entered into appropriate case management systems in a timely manner.
Implement and apply established indigency verification procedures by reviewing supporting documents such as pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or public assistance records to determine eligibility for court-appointed counsel.
Collaborate with state government agencies and partners to obtain and review both confidential and non-confidential financial and personal information.
Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with all legal and policy requirements related to sensitive data.
Compile and maintain accurate records of applications for appointed counsel, track and analyze eligibility determinations and related outcomes and generate regular and ad hoc reports to support court operations, policy decisions, and compliance requirements.
Provide administrative and operational support to ensure consistent application of policies across case types and court divisions.
Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in application review and eligibility determination.
Serve as a resource for court staff regarding procedures related to appointed counsel requests.
