TITLE: Medical Assistant
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Adhere to instructions issued by the Licensed Nursing Staff and perform duties
in accordance with established routines, methods and techniques, and in
Compliance with the recognized policies, procedures, standards and practices and within the State Regulatory Acts
2. Follows Standard Precautions and OSHA Guidelines
3. Maintain an organized, neat, well-stocked working area
4.Documents information clearly and completely utilizing correct forms and in a timely manner
5. Maintain a safe, secure, comfortable environment for every patient.
6.Take vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate) and assist with Admissions
7.Provide assistance with ADL’s and direct patient care such as assisting with bathing, toileting eating, dressing, personal
hygiene, transfer and ambulation
8.Interact with patients
9.Monitor patients and report any variances to normal to the nurse for further assessment.
10.Follow infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of organisms.
11. Support nursing staff in a calm, efficient manner during acute, emergency situations.
12.Bathe participants by multiple methods: tub/whirlpool, shower, bed bath and perinea care
13.Dress and groom (brush hair, shave, oral hygiene, etc.) residents. Provide nail care
14.Weigh patients monthly as ordered and record
15.Measure and record intake and output
16. Provide care that minimizes the risk of skin breakdown by being attentive to the patient’s
hygiene, proper positioning and injury prevention. Observe and report the presence of skin
breakdown to nursing staff.
17.Properly and safely lift, move, transfer and position residents in the chair, bed, wheelchairs and while using other
equipment.
18.Safely feed residents as ordered
19.Provide adequate care to ill/injured patients under the direction of the nursing staff.
20.Provide care as detailed in interdisciplinary care plan.
21. Communicate any changes from norm, or “unusual” observations to the nurse in a timely
fashion. Report accidents, with or without injury, promptly to immediate supervisor
22.Transport patients in wheelchairs throughout building and on grounds
23.Comply with policies, procedures and specific protocols for patients lifts and transfers as
designated by the care plan. Willingly seek help and assist others in lifting activities
24.Use equipment in a safe manner
25.Correct unsafe conditions as appropriate. Report all unsafe conditions to immediate supervisor
26.Understand scope of practice of C.N.A. role and perform within parameters of job description
27.Understand nurse’s aide’s role in Fire and Disaster Procedures
28.Use appropriate workplace behavior and adhere to dress code at all times
29.Demonstrate understanding of boundaries when caring for patients and their families
Interact with residents, families and visitors in a warm, caring and courteous manner
30. Accept constructive criticism from immediate supervisors and take corrective action
31.Demonstrate respectful relationships with supervisors, co-workers and interdepartmental staff
32.Cooperate with other staff members to ensure maximum patient care and completeness of assignments. Assist peers
with job tasks; offer to help peers as time permits. Work with others as a team to assure residents are out of bed, routine
care is being provided and positioning is routinely being done. Bring patient care issues to the attention of the nurse
33.Participate in Clinical Quality Improvement activities as relevant to role
34.Maintain a good record of attendance and punctuality
35.Can be relied upon to complete all routine tasks assigned in accordance with policies and Procedures
36.Demonstrate flexibility with patients assignment and scheduling changes
37.Use work time efficiently. Respects break and/or mealtime guidelines and telephone privileges
38.Provide required advance notice for the purpose of schedule requests or when calling in sick
39.Comply with scheduling guidelines
40. Demonstrates appropriate personal hygiene
41.Preserve patient dignity when providing care
42.Adhere strictly to patient confidentiality policies
43. Provide a supportive, protective environment for patients
44.Demonstrate compliance with all patients rights; possess knowledge of Abuse Prevention policies and procedures
45.Provide care in a kind, compassionate manner.

QUALIFICATIONS
-Experience: Must be 18 years of age with a High School diploma or equivalent
-Initial 40 hours of combination of classroom and experiential training deemed competent to be a Program Aid.
-Proficient in vital signs, Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Independent ADLs
-At least 1 year working experience with the special needs
-CPR Certified and Basic First Aid
-CORI, Physical in the past 12 months, Annual TB test
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Medium Work-Lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
-Pre-employment clearance by a physician that certifies the employee to be free of infectious disease and/or restrictions that would inhibit performing job related responsibilities
Language: Able to speak Spanish. Able to read, write and speak English.
