We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Service Technician to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC and mechanical systems at customer locations.
This is a hands-on field position for a technician who takes pride in solving complex problems, delivering dependable service, and helping customers maintain safe and efficient facilities. You will work with a variety of commercial equipment, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat pumps, pumps, hydronic systems, refrigeration equipment, and related mechanical components.
Candidates with advanced technical expertise, extensive commercial service experience, or specialization in complex systems may be considered for placement as a Senior Service Technician or Technical Specialist.
What You’ll Do
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial HVAC and mechanical systems.
- Diagnose equipment failures using schematics, technical manuals, diagnostic instruments, and manufacturer specifications.
- Service equipment such as:
- Air-cooled and water-cooled chillers
- Boilers
- Cooling towers
- Heat pumps
- Pumps and hydronic systems
- Commercial air-conditioning equipment
- Refrigeration systems
- Valves, piping, controls, and related mechanical components
- Repair or replace mechanical components.
- Read and interpret HVAC plans, wiring diagrams, equipment schematics, and sequence-of-operation documentation.
- Use meters, gauges, and other diagnostic tools to identify mechanical issues.
- Clearly explain equipment conditions, recommended repairs, and maintenance needs to customers and internal team members.
- Maintain complete and accurate service documentation, including work performed, equipment condition, parts used, and recommended follow-up.
- Follow company safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Properly operate and care for company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Participate in overtime or on-call coverage as required.
What We’re Looking For
- At least four years of commercial HVAC service or maintenance experience.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience servicing commercial HVAC/R equipment and related mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Working knowledge of refrigerant circuits, controls, pumps, valves, piping, and hydronic systems.
- Ability to independently diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Strong customer-service, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work safely and effectively at multiple customer locations.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of a commercial field-service position.
Senior or Specialist-Level Consideration
Candidates may be considered for a Senior Service Technician or Technical Specialist position based on factors such as:
- Advanced experience diagnosing and repairing complex commercial HVAC systems.
- Expertise in chillers, boilers, refrigeration, controls, hydronics, or another specialized equipment category.
- Ability to independently manage complex service calls from diagnosis through completion.
- Experience mentoring technicians or providing technical field support.
- Advanced manufacturer training, certifications, or relevant trade credentials.
- Consistently strong safety, documentation, and customer-service performance.
Final title and compensation will be based on experience, technical proficiency, certifications, and the needs of the business.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both air-cooled and water-cooled chillers.
- Experience with boilers, cooling towers, heat pumps, pumps, and hydronic systems.
- EPA Section 608 certification.
- Relevant manufacturer certifications, trade-school training, or apprenticeship completion.
- Experience working in equipment rental, construction, commercial property maintenance, or field service.
- CDL, if required for the vehicles assigned to the position.
