Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations and diagnostic assessments using clinical research methods and medical terminology.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with HIPAA regulations, DEA guidelines, and collaborative practice agreements, ensuring safe drug administration and proper documentation within EMR/EHR systems.
- Develop individualized treatment plans that incorporate psychopharmacology, behavioral health interventions, and patient education to promote mental wellness.
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals across disciplines such as internal medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, and emergency medicine to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Manage acute and chronic mental health conditions by providing crisis intervention, triage services, and follow-up care in outpatient or inpatient settings including hospitals or assisted living facilities.
- Utilize telehealth platforms to extend mental health services remotely, ensuring access for patients with mobility or transportation challenges.
- Maintain detailed medical records adhering to HIPAA standards while managing clinical documentation for billing purposes using EMR systems like Epic or Cerner.
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse populations including children, seniors in memory or dementia care, and individuals with developmental disabilities or complex psychiatric needs.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology related to psychotropic medications, including injection administration and drug interactions.
- Familiarity with medical office procedures such as specimen collection/processing, venipuncture, IV infusion, suturing, sterile processing, and catheter care.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; experience with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is highly desirable.
- Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients on treatment options while demonstrating empathy and cultural competence.
- Ability to perform physical examinations including vital signs assessment and behavioral health evaluations; knowledge of anatomy and physiology enhances clinical decision-making.
- Experience working within hospital environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or teaching hospitals is a plus; familiarity with acute care settings like ICU or emergency rooms is beneficial.
