The Tax Preparer supports the preparation and review of individual and small‑business tax returns while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a positive client experience. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare federal and state individual income tax returns (Form 1040 and related schedules) under supervision.
- Assist with basic business returns, including partnerships and S‑corporations, as assigned.
- Organize, verify, and input client tax documents with a high level of accuracy.
- Communicate with clients to request missing information and clarify basic tax questions.
- Perform initial quality checks to identify inconsistencies, missing data, or potential issues.
- Maintain clear documentation and follow internal procedures for file management and compliance.
- Support senior preparers and reviewers with research, follow‑ups, and administrative tasks.
- Stay current on foundational tax rules, annual updates, and firm best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–3 years of experience preparing individual tax returns (internships included).
- Familiarity with tax software and basic tax concepts.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines during peak season.
- Willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow into more advanced responsibilities.
