The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized school environment that supports student learning and staff productivity. This role performs routine and deep-cleaning tasks, minor maintenance, and facilities upkeep in accordance with TMSA health, safety, and cleanliness standards. The Custodian is a key contributor to the overall campus culture and plays an essential role in creating a positive and healthy learning environment.
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, offices, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and buff floors; clean and disinfect surfaces, furniture, and fixtures.
- Empty and dispose of trash and recyclables throughout the building and around campus grounds.
- Clean and restock restrooms with necessary supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper) throughout the day.
- Set up and break down furniture and equipment for events, meetings, and activities.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and reporting facilities issues to the Operations Manager.
- Monitor and maintain custodial supply inventory, notifying the Operations Manager of restocking needs.
- Ensure that all exterior areas, including walkways and entry points, are clean, safe, and accessible.
- Support seasonal deep-cleaning, summer preparation, and pre-opening campus readiness tasks.
- Follow all TMSA safety protocols including the proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Respond to spills, biohazard situations, or urgent cleaning needs promptly and in compliance with safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the School Operations Manager.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent work experience accepted.
- Minimum 1 year of custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, chemicals, and equipment safe for a school environment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic communication skills in English; ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Experience in a K–12 school or institutional facilities setting.
- OSHA 10 certification or familiarity with workplace safety regulations.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Basic handyman or minor maintenance skills.
