Job Description: Turf Specialist
We are seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Turf Specialist to join our team. As a Turf Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining turf commercial and residential areas, ensuring they are healthy, green, and aesthetically pleasing.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and inspect turf areas for any issues, including pests, diseases, weeds, irrigation or drainage problems.
- Implement effective turf management plans, including the application of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
- Conduct regular soil testing and analysis to assess nutrient levels and pH balance and make necessary adjustments.
- Effectively communicate with customers and staff in-person, over the phone, via text and email.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of turf, including sodding, aerating and seeding.
- Operate and maintain turf equipment and machinery such as aerators, spray pumps and motors, leaf blowers and spreaders.
- Keep accurate records of work completed, materials used, and maintenance schedules.
- Learn and promote proper turf care techniques and best practices.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, innovations, and advancements in turf management.
- Collaborate with other department members, such as arborists, landscapers, and groundskeepers, to ensure overall property maintenance is coordinated and efficient.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; a background in Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Turf Specialist or in a similar role is preferred (not required).
- Ability to gain knowledge of turfgrass varieties, soil types, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
- Familiarity with turf management equipment and machinery preferred.
- Possess problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate issues and solutions effectively.
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
