Blackbird Accounting is a small, growing firm in Vancouver, WA looking for an experienced bookkeeper who can handle high-level work with minimal hand-holding. If you’ve spent 5+ years in the weeds of client books and you actually enjoy cleaning up a messy QuickBooks file, we want to talk.
This isn’t data-entry work. You’ll own client accounts end to end and be trusted to catch what others miss.
What you’ll do
- Review financial statements for accuracy and flag issues before they reach the client
- Clean up and maintain QuickBooks Online files — untangle miscategorized transactions, fix reconciliations, and get books review-ready
- Review Washington DOR excise (B&O and sales tax) returns for accuracy
- Run and review payroll, including related filings and reconciliations
- Mentor and support a team of bookkeepers/accountants — review their work, answer questions, and help them grow
- Keep client books current, organized, and audit-ready across multiple engagements
- Communicate clearly with clients and the team on open items and deadlines
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years of full-charge bookkeeping experience
- Strong hands-on QuickBooks Online skills, including cleanup and troubleshooting
- Comfort reviewing financial statements — you know what “right” looks like
- Working knowledge of Washington DOR excise returns (B&O / sales tax)
- Payroll experience (processing and filings)
- Sharp eye for detail and a habit of catching errors and loose ends
- Able to manage several clients and deadlines at once without dropping the ball
Nice to have
- Experience in a CPA firm or multi-client environment
- Familiarity with payroll platforms (e.g., Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll, ADP)
- QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification
Why Blackbird
- Small firm, real ownership of your work — no getting lost in a big org
- Varied client base, so the work stays interesting
- A team that values accuracy and gives you room to do the job right
