Job Description:
We're hiring a Senior Rules Engineer to support a banking client in Charlotte, NC. In this role, you'll design and maintain the business rules systems that power automated decisioning — such as credit decisioning, fraud detection, and compliance checks — and work directly with client stakeholders to translate policy into rule logic.
What You'll Do:
- Design business rule models that translate banking policy and regulatory requirements into executable logic
- Author and maintain rules using DRL (Drools Rule Language) in a BRMS such as Drools/KIE
- Architect rule hierarchies, managing priority and resolving rule conflicts
- Manage rule versioning across development, test, and production environments
- Implement decision trace and audit logging to support regulatory and compliance reviews
- Serve as a key technical point of contact for client stakeholders — gathering requirements, presenting solutions, and troubleshooting issues
- Partner with business analysts, compliance/risk teams, and developers
What You'll Need:
- 8+ years of experience in business rules engineering
- Hands-on expertise with DRL and a rules engine (Drools/KIE, Blaze Advisor, IBM ODM, or Corticon)
- Experience designing rule hierarchies and managing rule versioning/lifecycle
- Experience with decision trace/explainability, ideally within a regulated industry (banking, insurance, healthcare)
- Strong communication skills for client-facing work
- Proficiency in Java/Spring
- Ability to work onsite in Charlotte, NC 3 days per week

Pay: $95,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
