About AEL
Advanced Environmental Laboratories, Inc. (AEL) is an environmental, chemical, and analytical testing laboratory network with more than 30 years in business. We support public agencies, engineering firms, and private-sector clients with environmental testing for drinking water, wastewater, hazardous waste, landfill, property assessment, and related projects.
· Our stability depends on reliable people, consistent processes, and accurate work. We are committed to helping employees learn, grow, and build long-term careers within our laboratory network.
Why We Are Hiring
· AEL is adding a full-time Sample Receiving Technician to our Miami laboratory. This position strengthens the first stage of our laboratory process and helps us provide timely, accurate, and professional service as sample volume and client needs continue to grow.
· Sample Receiving is where client expectations, Chain of Custody documentation, sample condition, and laboratory workflow come together. The right person will understand that careful work at the front end protects everything that follows.
Why This Role Matters
· You will often be one of the first AEL employees to handle a client’s samples and documentation. The way samples are received, checked, entered, labeled, stored, transferred, and communicated can directly affect laboratory workflow and client confidence.
· This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys organized, hands-on work, client interaction, computer-based tracking, and being part of a team where accuracy and follow-through matter.
Who Will Succeed in This Role
· You are dependable, punctual, and ready to contribute throughout the workday.
· You notice missing information, inconsistencies, damaged containers, preservation concerns, and other details that need follow-up.
· You communicate professionally with clients, project managers, client services, couriers, and laboratory staff.
· You follow written procedures and complete documentation accurately, even when several deliveries arrive at once.
· You are comfortable using a computer, learning a Laboratory Information Management System, and entering information carefully.
· You are willing to help teammates, adjust to changing priorities, and take ownership of work through completion.
· You respond well to coaching, ask questions when unsure, and apply what you learn consistently.
This May Not Be the Right Fit If
· You are looking for a casual receiving job with minimal documentation, client interaction, or accountability.
· You are frequently late, hard to reach, or wait until the last minute to communicate problems.
· You tend to rush through data entry, labels, paperwork, or repetitive tasks where accuracy is essential.
· You dislike following procedures, checking your work, or documenting discrepancies.
· You prefer to work alone without coordinating handoffs, priorities, or sample issues with others.
· You are unwilling to assist with courier, kit, cooler, shipping, or other department needs when trained and assigned.
· You are uncomfortable with a fast-moving environment in which workload and priorities may change during the day.
What You’ll Do
· Receive and unload incoming environmental samples and consignments according to applicable procedures and transport requirements.
· Compare samples and documentation to the Chain of Custody and corresponding information, identify discrepancies, and help obtain resolution.
· Review Chain of Custody records for completeness and accuracy.
· Verify sample preservation and receipt condition and communicate concerns promptly.
· Enter received jobs into the Laboratory Information Management System and assign work-order tracking information.
· Label samples accurately and distribute them to the appropriate laboratory area, storage location, project manager, sister laboratory, or subcontract laboratory.
· Communicate sample receipt issues with Client Services, project managers, laboratory staff, and management.
· Prepare and ship sample kits to clients and maintain kit-related supplies.
· Track, clean, and decontaminate coolers according to procedures.
· Coordinate shipments to sister laboratories and subcontract laboratories.
· Perform sample disposal according to approved procedures.
· Assist with courier duties, walk-in clients, ice testing support, and other related responsibilities when trained and needed.
· Represent AEL professionally during client interactions and internal handoffs.
Minimum Requirements
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Valid state-issued driver’s license and good driving record.
· Ability to lift and move up to 55 pounds and perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
· Ability to read and follow detailed written instructions, communicate effectively, and maintain accurate records.
· Basic computer skills and willingness to learn AEL systems and workflows.
· Professional appearance, customer-service mindset, attention to detail, and dependable attendance.
· Willingness to work occasional weekends or overtime when operationally necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
· Previous environmental or analytical laboratory experience.
· Experience in sample receiving, shipping and receiving, logistics, inventory, courier operations, regulated documentation, customer service, or data entry.
· Experience with Horizon LIMS or another Laboratory Information Management System.
· Familiarity with Chain of Custody documentation, sample preservation, environmental samples, or laboratory workflows.

· Attach a PDF or Microsoft Word version of your resume. A resume is required to complete the application.
