We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll Specialist to join our team at the Dassel-Cokato District Office. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for managing the payroll process, assist with accounts payable and receivables, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will play a crucial role in maintaining employee records and providing exceptional support to staff regarding payroll inquiries.
Responsibilities

Process semi-monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in status

Calculate and process deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings in accordance with federal and state regulations

Prepare, process and submit all required or necessary payroll state and federal reports (PERA, TRA, New Hire Report, Unemployment, MN Paid Leave)

Prepare reports for unions

Process wage garnishments

Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management and other departments as needed

Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and tax-related issues

Ensure compliance with all applicable payroll regulations and guidelines, including federal and state labor laws

Assist in the preparation of year-end reports, including W-2s and 1099s

Collaborate with the Human Resources department to ensure accurate employee data and benefits enrollment

Participate in audits related to payroll and maintain necessary documentation for compliance purposes

Continuously seek opportunities to improve payroll processes and systems for increased efficiency

Process accounts payable and receivable functions

Prepare deposits, invoices, and financial reports

Assist with purchasing and vendor management
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations

Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Google Workspace

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Qualifications

Associates degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred and/or experience

Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing or a similar role

Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems; experience with Smart Systems is a plus

Familiarity with federal and state payroll regulations and compliance requirements

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations

Hours: Full Time, 8 hours per day, Monday thru Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Salary range: $52,096-$60,510 , depending on qualifications and experience
