The Peer Support Specialist plays a critical role in providing assistance and guidance to individuals facing various challenges related to mental health, addiction, and behavioral issues. This position requires a compassionate and knowledgeable individual who can effectively engage with clients, assess their needs, and provide appropriate support. The ideal candidate will possess strong crisis intervention skills and patience which, enables them to foster positive outcomes for those they assist.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention and management support to clients in distress.
- Conduct assessments to identify client needs and develop tailored support plans.
- Offer behavioral health support through counseling and mentoring techniques.
- Facilitate motivational interviewing sessions to encourage positive change in clients.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, progress, and outcomes.
- Stay informed about community resources and services available for clients.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- NC Peer Support Certified
- Experience in crisis intervention and management is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of mental health counseling techniques and addiction counseling practices.
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team-oriented environment.
- Previous mentoring experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Health, or a related field is preferred, NOT required.
