Job Overview
We are seeking 3-5 experienced Fitter's 2nd Class to join our production team in Cameron, TX. This position is responsible for fitting, positioning, aligning, and securing steel components and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fabrication or manufacturing environment, possess strong blueprint-reading skills, and be committed to producing high-quality work in a safe and efficient manner.
Duties
What You'll Be Doing
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
- Position, align, fit, and secure steel components and assemblies for welding.
- Measure, mark, and lay out materials according to project requirements and specifications.
- Develop and utilize templates, jigs, and fixtures to ensure proper alignment and fit-up.
- Use hand tools, measuring devices, calipers, squares, straightedges, grinders, and welding equipment to complete fitting tasks.
- Verify dimensions and completed workpieces to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Perform layout work, including locating cut lines, bend lines, and reference points while accounting for welding shrinkage and material specifications.
- Demonstrate proficiency in SMAW and GMAW welding processes.
- Operate grinding equipment and material handling equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow established welding procedures, production procedures, and quality standards.
- Complete basic preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Maintain accurate material control and production records.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Work collaboratively with production and welding teams to meet daily production goals.
- Support company objectives with a focus on Safety, Quality, and Production.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of fitting, fabrication, welding, or related manufacturing experience.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Experience using hand tools, measuring devices, grinders, and fabrication equipment.
- Strong math, measuring, and layout skills.
- Knowledge of shop safety procedures and manufacturing best practices.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and material handling throughout the workday.
- Ability to work in a fabrication and manufacturing environment around welding, grinding, and heavy equipment.
- Ability to maintain visual and mental concentration while performing precision fitting and layout work.
