Position Summary:
The Volunteer Engagement Manager is responsible for recruiting, scheduling, and supporting a dedicated team of volunteers to advance the mission of Healing Abuse Working for Change (HAWC). This role develops and implements strategies to attract and retain committed volunteers while fostering a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven volunteer experience.
In addition to volunteer management, the Volunteer Manager oversees the scheduling of the organization’s 24/7 crisis hotline, ensuring adequate volunteer staffing.
The Volunteer Engagement Manager coordinates the organization’s annual Holiday Gift Program, leading volunteer recruitment and engagement for the initiative, organizing donations, collaborating with community partners and donors, and ensuring that families served by the organization receive holiday assistance in a respectful and efficient manner.
This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, build meaningful community partnerships, and inspire volunteers to make a lasting impact. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting survivors of domestic abuse, committed to trauma-informed practices, and dedicated to strengthening community engagement through volunteerism.
This is a part-time position of 20 hours a week with an hourly rate of $25-$27.
Position Experience:
- Experience as a volunteer organizer or comparable experience
- Commitment/experience working with survivors of domestic violence and promoting social justice
- Outgoing and strong at building and maintaining individual and community relationships
- Excellent interpersonal skills with volunteers, staff, clients and the community
- Excellent oral and written speaking skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to hold professional boundaries and honor privacy of those we serve
- Must have a valid MA license and reliable vehicle
- Understanding of volunteer management platforms such as sign-up-genius or similar
Position Responsibilities:
- Actively recruit volunteers for all programs within HAWC and for two major events
- Increase awareness of HAWC and foster relationships with North Shore communities, institutions, and organizations through outreach events, community programs, and networking
- Manage and maintain volunteer files, to include application, interview, background check process, and training certification
- Complete statistical data forms
- Manage/oversee the scheduling of the hotline and all communication with answering service
- Attend regular supervision, team meetings and all staff meetings
- Put into practice workplace and team values
- Ability to flex hours to meet position responsibilities
- Coordinates the agency’s Holiday Program and handles all communications
- Schedule shadowing of volunteers after completion of pre-service training
- Responsible for Cori/Sori and confidentiality agreement for all new volunteers before volunteering. In addition, Execute Cori/Sori for current volunteers every two years
