SHEET METAL WORKERS LU# 23 – JATC is hiring a dependable, organized Office Assistant to support daily operations at our Anchorage union sheet metal trade school.
This part-time onsite role provides front-desk, clerical, scheduling, records, travel, supply, and general office support for apprentices, instructors, staff, contractors, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer phones, greet visitors, and provide friendly front-desk support.
- Assist with scheduling, meetings, appointments, and office communications.
- Prepare, file, and organize documents, training materials, reports, and student records.
- Enter tests, quizzes, progress information, and records into spreadsheets.
- Coordinate travel, lodging, reimbursements, supplies, parts, and materials.
- Maintain licenses, insurance documents, certifications, and key office records.
- Support contractor, vendor, and training partner relationships.
- Assist with social media, outreach, light office upkeep, apartment oversight, and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or currently pursuing completion.
- Administrative, clerical, customer service, or office support experience.
- Strong organization, accuracy, communication, and customer-service skills.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Basic accounting knowledge and comfort with records, reimbursements, and reports.
- Ability to work onsite in Anchorage on a part-time schedule.
- Dependable transportation and two employment references.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a team-based office environment.
- Comfort handling confidential information, spreadsheets, filing systems, and standard office tools.
- Interest in skilled trades, apprenticeship training, workforce development, or learning about tools and parts.
Schedule and Compensation
- Part-time, onsite position in Anchorage, AK.
Wage
- $22.00/hour during the 90-day probationary period; $28.00/hour plus benefits after successful completion. Benefits are through UFCW Local Union 1496 and require union membership.
Hours
- 5 hours per day, 5 days per week, flexible between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
