Job Overview
This position provides support to the operation of the Freeze Pack by maintaining and operating plant Refrigeration, Boiler and Utility supply equipment. The Mechanic (B& R) is responsible for training and directing Tunnel Operators in the effective operation and maintenance of their assigned equipment.
The individual in this position works closely with plant maintenance and other employees to reduce downtime and improve machine efficiency. This individual will be required to coordinate with the other B & R mechanics and fully understand the purpose and operation of the Plant Boiler/Refrigeration needs, along with having the ability to make decisions based on the tools given. It is important that the person(s) conduct themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of their equipment and surroundings. The individual in this position will accomplish these tasks by utilizing a team concept through working with team members and following directions and instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor. Overtime may be required to meet operational goals.
Responsibilities
- Maintain plant Freezing, Steam, and Utility systems.
- Maintain accurate and timely data records of all systems.
- Understand and comply with PSM and RMP requirements.
- Minimize downtime and improve line efficiency through accepted Refrigeration and Steam Plant operating procedures.
- Complete assigned Preventive Maintenance tasks with minimal supervision.
- Utilize Work Order system for required repairs and tasks.
- Be willing and able to participate in the Plant Apprenticeship Program.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Special Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience Required -
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus four years of related experience; OR equivalent combination of education, experience, and skills needed to successfully perform the essential job functions.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals).
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse staff in order to accomplish Plant goals and objectives.
- Ability to effectively work on multiple assignments, while responding to frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
Must be able to work any shift and overtime as required;
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently
- Dependable, detail‑oriented, and professional
- At least one year of agricultural experience is highly desirable.
