Sumter Health & Rehabilitation is seeking an experienced and compassionate Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join our nursing leadership team. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse who is passionate about clinical excellence, mentoring staff, and helping lead a skilled nursing and rehabilitation community dedicated to exceptional resident care.
Working alongside the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a vital role in overseeing daily clinical operations, supporting nursing staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a culture of quality, teamwork, and compassionate care.

Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily operation of the nursing department.

Provide leadership, coaching, and support to Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).

Help oversee staffing, scheduling, and clinical workflow to ensure quality resident care.

Monitor resident care, conduct clinical rounds, and assist with resident assessments.

Ensure physician orders, medications, treatments, and nursing interventions are implemented appropriately.

Support infection prevention, quality assurance, risk management, and performance improvement initiatives.

Assist with survey readiness and maintain compliance with CMS, state, and federal regulations.

Participate in hiring, orientation, education, competency evaluations, and staff development.

Collaborate with physicians, therapists, pharmacy, social services, and the interdisciplinary team to achieve exceptional resident outcomes.

Foster positive relationships with residents, families, physicians, and staff while promoting a culture of teamwork and accountability.

Serve as the Director of Nursing in their absence as needed.

Current Alabama Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

Current CPR/BLS certification.

Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.

Previous nursing leadership experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing, Unit Manager, Supervisor, Staff Development Coordinator, Charge Nurse, or similar leadership role preferred.

Experience in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, post-acute care, or geriatric nursing strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, infection prevention, quality assurance, and long-term care operations.

Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Working knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR).
