The Health Coordinator is responsible for providing medical coverage for on-site overnight school programs (fall). They will be responsible for administrative and clinical functions related to the healthcare of our participants. The Health Coordinator will work closely with and report to the Director of Programs & Rentals and Program Coordinator to provide for the health and well-being of all program participants as well as the staff. The Health Coordinator must have either a current license as an RN, LPN, CNP, or PA, or certification as an EMT or Wilderness First Responder
Ecology School is an organization that transforms how people think about science, food, the environment, and themselves through joyful, hands-on learning for all ages. Located at River Bend Farm in Saco, Maine, The Ecology School provides a variety of programming including conferences, workshops, camps, and school programs. The Health Coordinator works primarily within our overnight school and camp programs. Preferred Qualifications
1. Current CPR training
2. Current Professional Liability Insurance if applicable
3. Oral communication skills:
a. to develop and maintain rapport with children, classroom teachers, parents and other professionals
b. to work closely with Ecology School staff to provide care for all program participants
4. Written communication skills to keep records as required by law and communicate with clients and medical professionals.
5. Proven ability to make quality, timely decisions regarding students, campers, and staff
Helpful Experience:
1. Nursing or health coordination in overnight camps and/or schools
2. Dispensing daily medications to children. Health care education with children.
3. Providing care in a non-traditional location where independence and flexibility are essential.
Compensation
The Health Coordinator position is a non-exempt position and will receive a weekly stipend. Free housing is provided for to the Health Coordinator for the duration of employment, including weekends. All meals are provided during overnight programming.
Responsibilities
1. Live on-site in the provided housing during overnight programs.
2. Prior to the arrival of overnight participants, review health forms of incoming participants and address any concerns as appropriate and necessary.
3. When participants arrive, accept medications and determine participant med schedule for the duration of their stay.
4. Throughout the program, dispense all regular meds – usually at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime.
5. Keep records of medications dispensed, both regular and PRN, and treatments given.
6. Assist in managing food allergies.
7. Coordinate any medical problems requiring off-site care.
8. Work closely with Ecology School administrators and client school staff (during school programs) regarding participants' care while they are on site.
9. Assess/treat/refer any illness or injury reported by participants/teachers/staff.
10. Keep clinic and all first aid kits fully stocked, buying/ordering supplies as needed.
11. Serve as medical liaison between schools, parents, and The Ecology School, both pre- and post-visit, as requested.
12. Help maintain compliance of health program with federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies.
13. Assist in developing policies for health promotion and medical care.
14. Assist in orientation of seasonal staff to policies for health promotion and medical care and provide for the health and safety of Ecology School staff as necessary.
