Fairfield Plantation Golf & Country Club is a semi-private golf club located in within the gates of West Georgia’s premier residential resort community, Fairfield Plantation. Our 18-hole course, designed by Golf Architect, Willard Byrd, boasts beautiful Bentgrass greens and stunning tree-lined fairways. We are searching for an experienced Director of Agronomy to lead our golf maintenance team, advise on common area landscaping, and take our course to the next level.
BASIC REQUIRMENTS
Supervise the maintenance of the golf course and community-wide landscaped areas. Coordinate with all relevant membership groups, committees, and management. Abide by company policies. Manage assets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and maintain all aspects of the golf course maintenance to ensure that the course is in excellent playing condition.
- Coordinate operations and events with the golf pro and Greens committee. Interacting with golfers fostering a positive experience on the course.
- Plan maintenance and project work pertaining to the golf course and other common areas.
- Determine needed supplies and equipment-obtain prices and make purchasing recommendations. Assist with preparing the annual budget, tracking expenses related to course maintenance and large-scale projects.
- Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises the golf course maintenance staff, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and efficient workflow.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, pesticide application procedures, and safety standards.
- Maintaining and managing all golf course equipment, including vehicles, tools, and machinery, ensuring their proper functioning and safety.
- Developing and implementing comprehensive turf management programs, including pest control, fertilization, irrigation, and aeration.
- Maintain a positive, professional relationship with General Manager, Board members, Association staff, homeowners, guests and contractors through excellent verbal and written communication.

- Strong knowledge of all aspects of agronomy.
- Knowledge of all small, medium and heavy equipment necessary to perform the functions of golf course maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of fertilizers and chemicals necessary for golf course maintenance operations.
- Strong knowledge of Bent Grass management during the summer stress.
- Must exhibit strong leadership skills. Must lead the maintenance team by example, fostering a safe, team driven working environment.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Performs other related functions pertaining to golf course and turf maintenance. Assist with landscaping needs throughout the Association’s common areas by consulting and managing the contracted landscape vendor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS
- College graduate or two-year degree in agronomy.
- Five plus years’ experience with all grasses with a strong knowledge of Bent & Bermuda
- Prior experience as a Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent
- Prior experience in budget planning and staff development & management.
ALTERNATIVE QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a Georgia or reciprocating state pesticide license
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must pass a criminal records background examination as well as submit to and pass a drug test. Must comply with organizational and departmental policies. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be accepted by the FFPPOA’s vehicular insurance to drive company vehicles. Maintain current state certificate for pesticide application.
