Job Summary/Description:
WTVG is Toledo, Ohio’s #1 station, and we are seeking a skilled Technical Media Producer (TMP). In this dual-capacity role, you will execute clean live broadcasts and manage master control operations. This position combines technical expertise in control room automation, switching, audio, and non-linear video editing with the critical oversight required to keep our streams running seamlessly and in full FCC compliance.

You will collaborate closely with producers to execute dynamic newscasts, using your creative input to help deliver world-class local content that is second to none in our market.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Technical Broadcast Execution: Operate Ross Overdrive control room automation system, production switchers, digital audio consoles, graphics systems, and robotic studio cameras during live newscasts and special productions.
- News Editing & Video Production: Utilize Edius non-linear editing software to edit daily lineups, topicals, weather cut-ins and ID’s, promos, and other short segments for live newscasts under tight deadlines.
- Master Control Operations: Monitor multiple over-the-air (OTA) and digital program streams to ensure continuous, uninterrupted broadcast delivery. Acquire, ingest, prep, and play out commercial and programming content.
- Automation & Playlist Management: Manage and execute programming logs, ensuring all automated elements, regional ad insertions, and emergency alert systems (EAS) run precisely as scheduled.
- Collaboration & Pacing: Partner closely with producers, directors, and anchors to maintain the pacing, visual quality, and technical integrity of all broadcasts.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure all broadcasts and video streams adhere strictly to FCC rules and regulations, including maintaining accurate transmitter logs, monitoring closed captioning, and reacting immediately to any feed disruptions.
- Pre-Production: Assist with pre-production duties, including preparing studio graphics, setting up lighting cues, checking microphones/audio feeds, and reviewing scripts for technical cues.
- Technical Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Conduct routine technical checks of studio and master control equipment. Collaborate with the engineering team to report, document, and troubleshoot hardware/software anomalies.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Experience: Television production, live broadcasting, or master control operations preferred (relevant internships or educational experience will be considered).
- Technical Proficiency: Basic computer skills are required. Hands-on experience with live production switchers, digital audio boards, robotic camera control systems, broadcast automation systems, and master control switching/monitoring equipment is preferred.
- Adaptability & Calm Under Pressure: Ability to multitask, prioritize under strict deadlines, and make split-second technical decisions in a fast-paced, live-news and high-stakes master control environment.
- Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with editorial, traffic, and engineering departments.
- Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work a flexible schedule, which will include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays depending on news cycles and operational coverage needs.
