Job Summary
EYL 365 Project is currently accepting applications for Face Painter Youth Educators for the 2026-2027 programming year. Our organization is seeking passionate and experienced Face Painter Youth Educators who have a strong interest in Social Justice and Racial Equity Arts Education. A Face Painter Youth Educator will provide in-school and/or after-school residency opportunities, or Arts Events, generally between 9:30am - 2pm or 3pm-6pm for 1.5 to 2 hours (can be more hours depending on the client), at DCPS Ward 6, 7 and 8 partner schools and recreation centers. Hired artists enjoy flexible hours, an excellent work environment, and additional earning opportunities. Candidates must apply online. Make sure to include samples of your work.
Essential Responsibilities
- Creating designs that are appropriate for the event or audience, such as animals or cartoon characters
- Preparing paints, brushes, and other materials needed to create designs
- Applying makeup to models or customers before their face painting session begins
- Creating designs on paper for customers who want to paint their own faces at home
- Setting up equipment and supplies for each session, including face painting kits with brushes and paints
- Talking to children to put them at ease during their face painting session
- Painting designs on customer’s faces using brushes and paints while they hold still
- Cleaning up after each session has ended to prepare for the next event
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a professional artist and/or teaching artist
- Excellent written communication skills, and ease with using email as a means of communication
- The power to teach young ones that knowledge and creativity are true magic
- The talent to encourage connections between chess problem-solving with real-life problem-solving
- Conduct interactive, friendly, and fun classes with 25 students
- The sincere drive to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship
- Ability to promote a feeling of security and trust in children by being warm, supportive, and comforting.
- Are enthusiastic and passionate about working with young children.
- Ability to commute to contracted locations.
- Curriculum development and lesson planning.
- Able to effectively collaborate with other teaching staff (when necessary)
- Ability to work well in an inner-city environment.

- Mediate any conflicts that may arise between students.
- Availability to work daytime or after-school hours
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
- Knowledge, practice, and experience with differentiated instruction, equity, accessibility, and anti-racism
- Advanced experience (2-5 years of experience) facilitating/teaching elementary and/or middle school school-aged youth, working with racially and ethnically diverse people.
- Holds high expectations for each student and works to foster student achievement through building individual relationships
- Enthusiasm and passion for mentoring others and making change in communities
- Ability to communicate effectively with citizens, staff, parents, young people, volunteers, and community groups
- Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
- Commitment to student life
- Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice
- Professional practice and ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual exploration
EYL 365 Project Teaching Artists are highly skilled artists and educators, committed to creating equitable learning spaces through collaborative teaching practices and social justice pedagogy. They report directly to the Program Director and are supported by EYL 365 Project Department Heads and Program Coordinators. They work closely with classroom teachers, school administrators, and teaching artists to positively impact school communities.
Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
