Under minimal supervision and assists with the general operation, maintenance and activities of the community swimming pool. Supervises and provides instruction as needed in swimming, diving, special swim classes and lifesaving classes; organizes and coordinates various meetings and programs; assists in developing and implementing activities for the aquatic staff; plans and develops training plans for subordinate staff; attends various seminars, programs and meetings; prepares a variety of reports, including lesson plans and evaluations; assists in opening and closing duties, which may include cleaning of pool and deck, light cleaning of bathrooms and light maintenance of facility, and performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from higher level management staff.
May exercise operational, functional and technical supervision over part-time recreation staff and volunteers.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

Ensures the safe operation of a community swimming pool by overseeing the enforcement of established rules, regulations, and standards of safety.

Monitors pool program activities such as swimming lessons, swim meets, and various other aquatics programs.

Assists in planning, scheduling, assigning and supervising the work of subordinate staff in the operation of the facility.

Trains subordinates for staff development purposes and to ensure that all training and license requirements are met and are current.

Enforces and explains rules and regulations to patrons.

Develops lesson plans for swimming recreation programs and performs related duties in the planning and implementation of various programs.

Teaches classes, such as swimming lessons, in the absence of appropriate subordinate personnel.

Ensures that the facility and its supplies are maintained at optimum levels.

Recommends necessary equipment and supplies for the safe operation of the pool.

Performs lifeguarding duties, participates in enforcement of safety rules, rescues swimmers in distress, and administers CPR and/or first aid as needed.

Performs pool maintenance tasks, such as testing the chlorine and pH levels of the pool water and adding chemicals to bring the level up to state and local health department requirements.

Writes reports and keeps a record of daily pool activities including a log of trainings, rescues, and emergencies.

May drive on City business depending on the needs of the position.

Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe efficient manner.

Organize and coordinate a variety of aquatic programs, activities, events and competitions.

Ability to work on weekends, holidays, as assigned.
- Maintain up-to-date records and prepare related reports as required.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Assistant Pool Manager is expected to work between 20 to 30 hours per week; hours scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Working hours may include and are not limited to mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.

Selection Process:
Candidates must clearly demonstrate through their application material that they meet the employment standards outlined above. All properly completed applications will be reviewed, and the most appropriately qualified individuals will be invited to continue in the selection process. Examinations for the positions may consist of any combination of written, performance, and oral exams to evaluate the applicant's skills, training, and experience for the position. Successful applicants will be placed on an eligibility list. The City may also merge lists. The selected candidate(s) must successfully complete pre-employment clearances which may include a physical, drug screen, and fingerprinting.
Veterans Preference Credit Eligibility:
Veterans of the armed forces, who have been discharged or released from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable (Government Code: 18540.4), shall receive an additional five (5) points to their final examination score for ranking purposes only. This preference will apply only to the first appointment to any regular full-time City appointment. A copy of your valid DD214 must be submitted on or before the final filing date in order to be eligible for Veterans Preference Credit.
