American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma and Stroke Center of Excellence, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.

44-bed Med/Surg Tele unit in a 457-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma facility that is also a Stroke Center of Excellence, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and Chest Pain Center

Adult patient population (18+) with diagnoses including respiratory illnesses, GI illnesses, sepsis, CHF, diabetes, and behavioral health

RN patient ratio is 1:4–6 (acuity dependent); ratios may surge to 1:7–8
-
Telemetry is monitored remotely by a dedicated monitoring technician
-
EMR: Epic
-
IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitoring: Patient Safety Net (PSN)
-
Day shift (0645–1900) and night shift (1845–0700) available; 36-hour shift option available

Every other weekend rotation required
-
No on-call or call-back requirements

Floating within Region 1 is required (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH); candidates must be willing to float to any facility within the region as needed

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, wound care, and plurex catheter management required
-
Strong communication skills and a positive bedside manner required

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration

Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the unit; local candidates are not accepted

Candidates who have held a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being considered

CNA support includes foley catheter insertion/removal, PIV removal, oxygen setup, bolus tube feeds, EKG, bladder scan, fingerstick blood sugar, and peripheral blood draws

Unit Secretary available on day shift only; charge nurse is out of assignment when staffing allows
-
IV/VAT team available for difficult IV access and central line dressing changes
-
Respiratory therapy is assigned to the unit 24/7 and handles all respiratory treatments
-
Hospitalist coverage is available 24/7 with cross-coverage at night; intensivist available 24/7 for consults as needed
-
Orientation includes a facility flash orientation with the education team followed by 2 days of departmental orientation with a preceptor
-
Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
-
RTO: Up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays; time must be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours cannot be met

Schedule is posted on a 6-week cycle
