American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, EKG competency, and the ability to float to a nearby campus.

MS/Tele unit in a community hospital setting

Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, surgical recovery, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive

Patient ratio of 1:6

Day shift, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (4x12-hour shifts)

36 or 48 hours per week available; contracts of 13–20 weeks accepted

Every other weekend required
-
Floating may be required to the main campus (NHRMC), approximately 32 minutes away
-
No on-call requirement

Self-scheduling

Pyxis used for medication management

Remote telemetry monitoring performed on the unit

Active NC RN license or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)

Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required

Proficiency in telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Experience with remote telemetry monitoring

Skills required include: bowel obstruction care, colostomy/ileostomy management, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV insertion and maintenance, heparin/insulin/PCA administration, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac

Must be able to work holidays

Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Must pass an EKG test prior to start

24-hour unit orientation provided, with weekly orientation sessions

Approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules required (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes)

Navy blue or white scrubs required

Candidates who were previously permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional Medical Center must wait 12 months before applying; facility rehire approval is required

Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved per contract, provided it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation

Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays

No RTO on holidays; requests beyond 7 days require facility approval

Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; mid-contract consolidation to a centralized office with unit reassignment is possible

Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a different rate

Travel pairs are allowed; each must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules

Preferred skills include: ACLS, on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram/cardiac surgery/MI care, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), port access/management, CVA care, substance withdrawal, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, pre/post thoracic surgery, tracheostomy care, charge nurse experience, electronic documentation, and community hospital experience
