McCombs Steel Company has a long history in Statesville, NC as an AISC certified steel fabrication company. This will be an hourly position.
We are currently seeking multiple skilled and experienced Welders/Fabricators to join our team on first shift and second shift. These individuals will primarily be responsible for the fabrication and welding of structural steel products with a great deal of precision. The role requires proficiency in Flux Core Welding (FCAW), with other welding techniques considered beneficial.
Second shift position with Mon-Thurs 11 hour shifts from 4pm - 3am. Friday 10 hour shift from 3pm-1am. Saturdays as needed.
**Potential for overtime on a regular basis depending on production schedule. Currently working 60 hour weeks due to high production demand. Pay based on experience.**
Job Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities of this job are included but not limited to this job description other tasks may be assigned and expected to be performed.
- Qualified candidates must be able to pass an AWS weld test in the 2F position using FCAW to be a certified welder.
- Lay out, position and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications.
- Ensure all parts are fitted and welded correctly.
- Read weld symbols and check weld size using weld fillet gauges.
- Set machines according to procedure charts.
- Follow weld procedures as it applies to volts, amps & wire feed speed.
- Remove rough spots from workpieces using portable power tools.
- Heat material to required temperature using temperature sticks and heating torches/cutting torches (read and follow pre-heat & inter-pass temperature tables).
- Follow guidance and correct assemblies per quality control's instruction.
- Operate an overhead bridge crane daily.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Qualifications & Skills
- Ability to read a tape measure required.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and shop drawings.
- Knowledge of AWS welding symbols is required.
- Ability to recognize and use the correct WPS for the process and joint design that will be welded.
- Ability to pass a 2G weld test is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization.
- Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Keen attention to detail to identify maintenance, product or operations issues.
- Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand or perform repetitive movements for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Must possess strong work ethic.
- Must be a team player.
- High school diploma or GED required.
