Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to work on a long-term, full time project with a well known customer in the Smart Building Technologies domain. This role will assist in product development for advanced lighting sources. This role is ideal for a hands-on designer experienced in taking products from concept through production, with a strong background in sheet metal and injection-molded plastic design. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual contributor who can collaborate closely with engineers, contribute to complex designs, and independently own smaller assemblies from design through validation.
Key Responsibilities
· Collaborate with engineering teams to develop mechanical designs from concept through production release
· Create complex 3D CAD models, primarily using Creo, with occasional use of SolidWorks
· Translate engineering requirements into manufacturable designs
· Design and develop sheet metal components, injection molded plastic parts, and basic electronic packaging solutions
· Own and execute complete design of simple assemblies (5–8 components)
· Develop part and assembly designs, material selection, drawings, and tolerance analysis
· Conduct peer reviews and support design revisions
· Support prototype development, supplier identification, part sourcing, and validation
· Build prototypes and test setups
· Partner with engineers on higher-complexity designs
Required Qualifications
· Associate degree (2-year) in Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related field
· Experience in mechanical design across the product lifecycle
· Proficiency in Creo or SolidWorks (willingness to learn Creo)
· Experience with 3D modeling, sheet metal, and injection molded design
· Ability to collaborate with engineers on complex designs
· Hands-on experience using basic shop/hand tools
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with Windchill
· Experience with electronics packaging design
· Experience working with vendors and suppliers
· Ability to lead small teams on defined projects
· Experience seeing products through production

Pay: $83,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
