Job Title: Childcare Assistant (Year-Round / Long-Term)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (7.5 paid hours daily; includes a 1-hour unpaid break from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM)
PLEASE NOTE: This is a permanent, year-round position. We are looking for an individual who wants to stay and grow with us for multiple years, not a seasonal or summer-only applicant.
Work with Purpose at Owl House - Owl House Children’s Sanctuary is a play-based home childcare program in Hailey, ID, serving children ages 13 months to 5 years. Our mission is to provide a safe, enriching environment where children thrive through loving support, free play, and nourishing food.
We are seeking a patient, highly reliable Childcare Assistant to support our daily program. Above all, you must genuinely love being around young children and be looking for a stable, long-term role where you can grow with us over the coming years.
Who Thrives Here? - The ideal candidate is someone who maintains a quiet, focused presence rather than chatting with other staff, ensuring eyes and ears are entirely on the children. You are highly coachable, happy to take direct instructions, handle constructive feedback well, and adapt entirely to our specific daily routines.
What You’ll Do Every Day
- Food Prep: Cook and serve daily whole-food meals while children watch or assist.
- Cleaning & Laundry: Keep our home clean, sanitary, and orderly (dishes, laundry, cleaning kitchen/bathrooms, sweeping, vacuuming, and tidying play spaces).
- Supervision: Maintain a low-chatter environment to monitor children's safety indoors and outside in the winter snow.
- Adventurous Play: Comfortably supervise outdoor activities (zipline, low tree climbing, strider bikes) safely without being overly fearful.
- Storytime (A Plus!): Bring a natural talent for sharing or making up stories throughout the day to engage the kids.
As You Get Settled - After your initial onboarding, your role will naturally expand to include:
- Handling non-emergency first aid (like bandaging small scrapes) once the children are fully comfortable with you. (Note: Assistance with true emergencies is expected as soon as your CPR/First Aid certification is completed).
- Diaper changing and daily wellness routines.
- Guided child conflict resolution.
- Logging daily updates in the Brightwheel app.
What You Need to Bring
- Long-Term Intent: A genuine desire to stay and grow with our program for multiple years.
- Passion & Patience: A deep love for children ages 13 months to 5 years and an innate patience.
- Reliability: Strict punctuality for the 8:30 AM start, excellent attendance, and proactive communication.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to be on your feet most of the day, work outside in freezing weather, and safely lift children up to 40 lbs.
- Background & CPR: Must pass a criminal background check and obtain CPR/First Aid certification prior to starting or immediately upon hire.
To Apply - Please submit your resume along with a brief note letting us know why you are interested in a permanent, year-round role in childcare. We look forward to meeting you!
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Application Question(s):
- Our days are spent largely outdoors in all weather conditions, keeping up with the high physical rhythms of young children. What draws you to a nature-based sanctuary environment, and how do you feel your energy fits into this active lifestyle?
- A beautiful day at Owl House relies heavily on holding a smooth home-like rhythm. This means a typical day involves spending a major portion of your time cheerfully cooking whole foods and deep cleaning, alongside caring for the children and adapting to the director's guidance. How does this combination of tasks sound to you, and why do you thrive in this kind of supportive team role?
