Position Summary
The Math Instructional Assistant supports high-quality mathematics instruction by assisting classroom teachers, building math teachers, and the building math coach in delivering small-group instruction and math interventions throughout the school day. This role plays an important part in supporting the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) by helping meet the academic needs of students across grade levels.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.

Experience working with elementary-aged students is preferred.

Strong math skills and confidence supporting mathematics instruction.

Ability to follow teacher/coach direction and implement instructional plans.

Effective communication, organization, and teamwork skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Demonstrated commitment to supporting student learning and success.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.

Provide small-group math instruction and intervention under the direction of classroom teachers and the math coach.

Assist in implementing math intervention plans, instructional activities, and guided practice.

Support students in building mathematical skills, fluency, and problem-solving abilities.

Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, building math teachers, and the building math coach to support daily instruction.

Reinforce math lessons introduced by the teacher through additional practice and guided instruction.

Help prepare instructional materials, manipulatives, and resources for math lessons and intervention groups.

Support teachers in maintaining a productive learning environment that fosters student engagement.

Monitor student progress during instruction and inform teachers/coaches of student needs or concerns.

Provide encouragement, redirection, and support to maintain student engagement and success.

Support positive classroom behavior consistent with school and district expectations.

Maintain accurate records and follow assigned schedules.

Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and a strong work ethic.

Participate in professional development related to math supports and intervention strategies as required.
