JOB GOALS
-
To give specialized academic, behavioral, and physical training to students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-
Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the classroom.
-
Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other materials, considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of the students.

Devises special teaching tools, techniques, and equipment.
-
Evaluates student progress through progress monitoring.
-
Establishes expectations for appropriate student behavior.
-
Counsels and consults with parents and students.
-
Manages materials and supplies.
-
Knows and follows all safety rules and procedures.
-
Maintains necessary records and completes the necessary paperwork to develop and maintain appropriate IEPs.
-
Prepares for assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
-
Attends IEP meetings when necessary.
-
Maintains order in classroom and school building.
-
Reports to the Department of Human Services first, and then to the principal when obtaining knowledge that a student's health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed because of abuse or neglect.

Represents the school and the community in a positive manner.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Lifting of objects that may exceed 40 pounds.

Carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Lifting of students that may weigh in excess of 100 pounds.

Other physical demands may be required as needed.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
