Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our dynamic eye care team. In this vital role, you will provide exceptional patient care by assisting ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures, operating specialized ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, and ensuring the smooth flow of clinical operations. Duties
- Perform comprehensive ophthalmic patient examinations, including measuring vital signs and conducting eye refraction assessments to determine prescriptions.
- Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry, tonometry devices, and other ophthalmic diagnostic tools with precision and adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Assist with patient intake processes by collecting medical histories, updating electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems), and ensuring all documentation complies with HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Support ophthalmologists during procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, preparing necessary instruments, and managing medical equipment operation efficiently.
- Educate patients on their eye health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care while maintaining excellent patient service standards.
- Manage front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and handling medical records with accuracy.
- Contribute to the clinic’s operational efficiency by supporting medical billing, coding processes, and retail optical sales when applicable.
Experience
- Prior experience working in an ophthalmology or optometry clinic is highly preferred but not necessary. We are willing to train in-house.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for managing electronic health records.
- Hands-on experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment like A-scan biometry devices, tonometers for intraocular pressure measurement, and other clinical tools.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to eye anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmic procedures.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and aseptic techniques to ensure patient privacy and safety.
- Experience in providing direct patient care with excellent communication skills in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
- Additional optical or retail sales experience is a plus for supporting optical department functions.
