ShowerUp Huntsville Operations Manager Job Description
The ShowerUp Operations Manager is a unique position requiring passion for the mission and values of ShowerUp, compassion and care for our guests, communication, organization, and an entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic.
Key requirements:
· Comfort with and understanding of our guests and the unhoused community in general. Willingness to engage with and build relationships with those who are experiencing homelessness.
· Ability and comfort in driving a pick-up truck with a trailer, as well as a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
· Can lift at least 50lbs.
· Can go up and down stairs.
· Able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather including extreme hot and cold at times.
· Proficiency with smartphone, email, camera, basic photo/video editing, social media, texting, etc.
· Presentable appearance including wearing ShowerUp apparel at all times while representing ShowerUp.
· Trained in, or willing to be trained in, de-escalation, first aid, Narcan delivery, etc.
· Self-direction and management.
· Able to multitask especially on-site at serving events while interacting with volunteers and guests, managing the event, distributing supplies, etc.
· Positive attitude and energy.
· Represent and demonstrate ShowerUp values and mission.
· Helpful…If not we can train: A basic understanding of mechanical systems such as plumbing, electrical, gas, propane, etc.
Duties:
· Establish, oversee, coordinate, manage, and run at least 5 serving events each week.*
· Maintain all trucks and trailers.
· Make sure vehicles have fuel, propane, oil changes, tires, appearance, repairs, winterizing, etc
· Daily inspection and cleaning of trucks, trailers, shower suites, storage rooms, truck beds, truck interiors, etc. Weekly deep cleaning of shower suites.
· Organization, maintenance, and replenishment of supplies including cleaning supplies, shower kits, towels, socks, underwear, etc.
· Manage and coordinate towel washing.
· Follow operations manual.
· Manage, maintain, and update volunteer portal and volunteer communication, serving calendar, tally sheet, maintenance schedules, etc.
· Pick up and manage donated items
· Answer emails and return phone messages and texts
· Schedule, manage, and communicate with one-off events and coordinators.
· Cultivate and obtain content for social media including photos, videos, stories, and captions.
· Engage with and express appreciation to each volunteer and build repeat volunteerism.
· Look for opportunities to build financial support for ShowerUp through communication with volunteer groups, speaking engagements, grant-writing, etc.
· Be able to represent ShowerUp if the media show up at an event including being presentable in appearance, able to communicate our core values, mission, and purpose, and always being upbeat and positive without engaging in controversy or issues. No media interaction should happen without talking to COO or CEO in advance.
· Communicate immediately with COO and CEO with any schedule changes in advance, information about repairs or damage, media interaction in advance, any injuries or issues with yourself, the equipment, volunteers, guests, or property.
· Immediate submission of credit card receipts.
· Coordinate with other serving groups who want to use the mobile shower units. Train and equip volunteer operators and other groups on operation, set up and tear down, operation and access of vehicles, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
* A ShowerUp event starts with making sure the mobile shower unit is stocked with supplies and ready to go. Then, making sure the truck and trailer are driven to the event location (you may do this, or it can be assigned to a volunteer or other team member) and setting up. This includes connecting to water source, running drain hose, starting generator, setting up table with supplies such as towels, toiletries, socks, etc., making sure that trash and dirty towel bins are out, starting the guest list, and greeting volunteers and assigning duties. Once the event is up and running, the guest list must be managed, showers are cleaned and prepared for each new guest, supplies are distributed, and volunteers are managed. At the end of the event, everything must be put back, truck and trailer driven back to parking lot, dirty towels must be washed, and everything must be ready for the next event.
This position is a front-line position with direct contact with volunteers, donors, guests and constituents. You will be required to represent the values of ShowerUp as a member of ShowerUp leadership. Failure to do so may lead to suspension or dismissal.
