Position Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in managing repairs and executing engineering projects that improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and productivity. This role combines technical expertise in manufacturing processes with project management skills to support initiatives ranging from new technology implementation to process optimization. The engineer will work cross-functionally with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure project success.
Salary Range: $82,268-$123,402
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting equipment issues, identifying root causes, and developing practical solutions to return critical equipment to production as quickly as possible.
- Locate and procure obsolete, discontinued, and hard-to-find replacement parts through OEMs, distributors, online marketplaces, and other sources. Expedite purchasing and shipping when necessary to minimize downtime and return critical production equipment to service as quickly as possible.
- Design and detail automated manufacturing systems and equipment, including infeed and outfeed conveyors, part handling systems, escapements, fixtures, and other production automation. Develop complete designs and drawings suitable for fabrication, assembly, and installation.
- Develop project plans, define scope, create budgets and timelines, and ensure on-time, within-budget delivery of manufacturing improvement projects.
- Analyze current manufacturing systems and procedures to identify inefficiencies and implement practical, cost-effective improvements.
- Use engineering knowledge to solve manufacturing challenges, implement solutions, and integrate new equipment or technology.
- Work with operations, maintenance, quality, and other engineering personnel to ensure smooth execution of projects and alignment with production goals.
- Ensure all project activities meet applicable safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Maintain up-to-date project documentation and prepare progress and performance reports for leadership.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing or project engineering (automotive experience preferred)
Essential Skills:
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and automation
- Proficient in CAD software and Microsoft Office tools
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with team members and stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Understand machining and fabrication capabilities, manufacturing tolerances, material selection, and proper fit and function of mechanical components.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work on the production floor as needed
- May require lifting up to 40 lbs occasionally
- Standing and walking for extended periods during shop-floor assessments
- Use of PPE as required for plant and project work
