Position Purpose
The Assistant Starbucks Manager supports the Starbucks Manager in leading all aspects of licensed Starbucks operations, including customer service, beverage quality, food safety, merchandising, inventory management, and partner development. This position helps ensure adherence to Starbucks and company standards while creating a welcoming café environment that delivers an exceptional customer experience. The Assistant Starbucks Manager serves as a key department leader and may assume responsibility for department operations in the Starbucks Manager’s absence.
Key Responsibilities Customer Experience & Sales
- Deliver and promote the Starbucks Experience by providing friendly, knowledgeable, and personalized customer service.
- Ensure beverages and food items are prepared and presented according to Starbucks quality standards.
- Assist customers with product recommendations and answer questions regarding menu offerings.
- Address customer concerns and service opportunities promptly and professionally.
- Support sales growth through suggestive selling, promotional activities, and seasonal product execution.
Department Operations
- Assist in coordinating daily café operations to ensure efficiency and service excellence.
- Ensure proper stocking, merchandising, and presentation of all food, beverage, and retail products.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to maintain in-stock conditions while minimizing waste.
- Support execution of Starbucks and company programs, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready café environment at all times.
Leadership & Team Development
- Assist with supervising, coaching, and developing Starbucks associates.
- Support onboarding and training of new team members on Starbucks standards, beverage preparation, and customer service expectations.
- Provide ongoing feedback, recognition, and performance coaching.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
- Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, and excellent customer service.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Starbucks standards, company policies, food safety regulations, and health department requirements.
- Monitor food handling, storage, temperature controls, labeling, and date rotation procedures.
- Maintain department readiness for operational, food safety, and compliance audits.
- Ensure all associates follow workplace safety guidelines and safe equipment operation practices.
- Identify and address safety concerns promptly to maintain a safe environment for customers and associates.
Financial Stewardship
- Assist with managing department sales, labor, expenses, and profitability.
- Support shrink and waste reduction efforts through proper ordering, production planning, and inventory controls.
- Monitor product movement and identify opportunities to improve operational performance.
- Help achieve department sales and productivity goals.
- Support labor planning and scheduling efforts to balance customer service and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous coffee shop, food service, restaurant, retail, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and beverage preparation procedures preferred.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and twisting.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work around hot equipment, food preparation areas, and refrigerated products.
- Ability to safely operate department equipment in accordance with company standards.
