Job Description
JOB TITLE: Guidance Counselor
SUPERVISOR: Principal
EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt
WORK YEAR: 205 Day Contract
BASIC FUNCTION: To direct and coordinate pupil services. To assist all students in overcoming problems that are barriers to learning; to assist students in the development of skills of personal/social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational planning.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Creates a climate conducive to counseling

Employs a variety of effective guidance and counseling procedures
-
Displays competent knowledge of guidance and counseling
-
Promotes a school environment conducive to positive growth and development
-
Organizes a systematic, developmental guidance program
-
Implements the guidance program effectively
-
Attends staff meetings, serves on staff committees, and accepts a share of responsibility for extracurricular activities
-
Duties may include performance of health services, for which training will be provided
-
Oversees student enrollment
-
Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrator

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is primarily sedentary. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work at times requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work requires activities involving driving automotive equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience and preparation required by the Board

Demonstrates knowledge of current curriculum, instructional, and child guidance trends and techniques
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Kentucky certification appropriate to the grade level and curricular assignment (School Counselor)

Has met the requirements for criminal records check and child abuse and neglect check as specified by Kentucky State Law
