Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and comfort.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates accurately in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support medical procedures by preparing patients and assisting nursing staff with tasks such as catheter care, wound care, or medication administration under supervision.
- Maintain patient safety by using proper manual handling techniques and equipment like Hoyer lifts for safe transfers.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior promptly to nursing staff, especially in critical care or dementia/memory care settings.
- Follow strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in medical documentation systems while maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
Requirements
- Current certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program; active state certification required.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those receiving hospice or palliative care.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs measurement, and basic life support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques and assistive devices like Hoyer lifts or patient transfer methods.
- Strong communication skills for effective caregiver-patient interactions and teamwork within multidisciplinary healthcare settings such as ICU, emergency medicine, or hospital medicine units.
- Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
