Position Summary
The Teacher Aide / Paraprofessional supports the classroom team in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for preschool-aged children. This position assists the Lead Teacher by carrying out lesson plans, supporting individualized learning, and promoting the social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development of all children. The Teacher Aide helps maintain compliance with Montana DPHHS childcare licensing standards while fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily activities and routines.
- Support small groups, one-on-one, and whole-class instruction.
- Help children participate in classroom activities, transitions, and inclusive play.
- Reinforce learning and behavior strategies as guided by teachers and therapists.
Child Engagement & Care
- Provide individualized support for children with autism and other developmental differences.
- Assist with self-help skills such as feeding, toileting, dressing, and hygiene as needed.
- Promote positive peer interactions and inclusive play.
- Support children during outdoor play
Safety & Environment
- Ensure classroom spaces are safe, clean, and organized.
- Monitor children closely to ensure health, safety, and supervision requirements are met.
- Assist with sanitizing toys, learning materials, and classroom equipment.
- Follow emergency and safety procedures according to Montana DPHHS licensing rules.
Family & Team Collaboration
- Maintain positive, respectful communication with children, families, and staff.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and administrative staff to support each child’s success.
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Experience working with young children in an early childhood, daycare, or preschool setting (preferred).
- Knowledge of child development, inclusive education, or special needs support is a plus.
- Ability to follow directions, take initiative, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Must pass Montana DPHHS background checks and meet childcare health/safety requirements.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and actively engage in a preschool classroom environment.
- Ability to sit, kneel, and move quickly to support children’s safety.
- Willingness to assist with toileting, feeding, and other personal care tasks.
- Comfort working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
